Scorpio Raglan
Scorpio Raglan
The Scorpio is mysterious and has many secrets to reveal. Be it the reversible nature, or the different styles the pattern comes in, this design is the epitome of versatile. Wear it right side out to show off the starry pattern, or turn it wrong side out and have a checkered sweater. Opt for a wool fiber and the snuggly, oversized version for the ultimate cozy fit. Or go for a summer fiber like cotton and pick the fitted, slim style with short sleeves for your new favorite summer tee.
Just like the all the other designs in the #MyZodiacSweater collection, for this sweater you’ll only have to work with 1 color at a time, dropping the inactive yarn at the start of a round and picking it back up at the start of the new round.
The Scorpio is a raglan sweater constructed from the top down. The pattern provides two fit options:
• an oversized fit with 6 to 10 inches or 15 to 25 of positive ease at the bust and long, roomy sleeves that gather at the cuff in a bubble.
• a slim fit with -2 to 2 inches or -5 to +5 cm of ease at the bust and narrower short sleeves.
You start with the single crochet short rows to raise the back neck, then continue with the interlocking stitch pattern on the yoke, body, and sleeves. The sweater is finished off with a ribbed collar, cuffs and hem.
Since it is worked from the top down, the pattern provides ample customization opportunity in terms of sleeve and body length, allowing you to create the perfect sweater for your body.
Like most CrochetHighway patterns, the Scorpio Raglan comes with step-by-step instructions and tutorial photos including on how to check for gauge, how to complete the yoke, how to split for sleeves, how to pick up stitches for sleeves. The pattern also comes with a Round tracker to help you keep track of the yoke repeats, as well as a stitch chart for the gauge swatch.
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn in at least 1 main color (MC), and 1 contrast color (CC). My testers used a variety of yarns and colors to show off this design - check out the tester photo gallery below to find all the details on yarns and yardages from my testers!
I’m wearing size 3 with 2” (5 cm) of negative ease around the bust. I made this slim fit sample using Lion Brand Coboo yarn in Denim as main color and Silver as contrast color.
For my other sample (which I made first!), I’m wearing size 5 with 10” (25.5 cm) of positive ease around the bust. For this oversized fit sweater I used Lion Brand Superwash Merino yarn in Sage as main color and Elm as contrast color.
This pattern is available in English only and uses standard US crochet terminology.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
See sizing table on the blog.
The sizing for this pattern is based on the standard Craft Yarn Council (CYC) measurements.
All my garment patterns are size-inclusive and are graded for actual bust circumferences of up to at least a 60 inches or 152 cm.
Slim fit tee:
This tee is designed to be worn with -2” to 2” (-5 to 5 cm) of ease around the bust. When choosing a size, find your actual bust size in column A of the sizing table. The finished bust circumference in column B will be closest either to 5 cm (2”) smaller (negative ease), or 5 cm (2”) larger (positive ease) than your actual bust measurement. The model is wearing size 3 with 2” (5 cm) of negative ease around the bust.
Oversized sweater:
This sweater is designed to be worn with 6” to 10” (15 to 25 cm) of positive ease around the bust. When choosing a size, find your actual bust size in column A of the sizing table. The finished bust circumference in column B will be anywhere from 6” (15 cm) to 10” (25 cm) larger than your actual bust measurement. The model is wearing size 5 with 10” (25.5 cm) of positive ease around the bust.
